More and more ‘amateur chefs’ – the likes of you and me – are experimenting with tastes and textures of food, aromas and exotic flavours from overseas, tempting many of us to spend more of our leisure time in the kitchen than anywhere else in the house. As a result, cookware manufacturers are waking up to the fact that the style and look of the kitchen should present an enjoyable place in which to prepare our foods and entertain our guests.
‘Stylish, colourful, trendy’ are all terms that are being bought in from other areas of the house and top name chefs and designers are now endorsing cookware products or launching their own ranges.
After 20 years in the gift and cookware retail trade Chris Backshall opened Maldon Cookshop in September 2004. Since then it has grown to be one of Essex’s premier cookware stockists, stocking such brands as Typhoon, Nigella Lawson, Jamie Oliver, Global knives, Dualit, Kitchen Aid, Gaggia, Cuisipro, Bodum, E-cloth and Le Creuset.
Situated just 40 miles to the north-east of London via the A12 and A414, Maldon lies on the estuary of the Blackwater River and traditional river industries like salt making (Maldon Salt – favoured by many top chefs) and oyster fishing still flourish. The town of Maldon is one of the oldest recorded towns in Essex, with an entry in the Doomsday Book.
